Artist Statement
My work explores aqueous motion by merging macro photography with liquid art techniques.
My artistic approach is a reflection of 35 years long devotion to digital signal and image processing, an engineering field that focuses on analyzing, transforming and synthesizing signals such as sound, image, video and scientific measurements. I continuously experiment with liquid flow techniques and develop my own unique methods in an effort to maintain my interrelationship with water, a central element of my life that structured my identity.
I believe science is a collection of knowledge gathered to understand nature and merge art and science to find layers of the unseen and capture the ephemeral moments of the fluid mechanics to create narratives reflective of bonds one forms through life.
As an artist devoted to working with aqueous drops and photographing their kinetic nature, I find the mechanism of a drop similar to the relational bonds of a network among humans. I celebrate such valuable connections everytime I capture the invisible intricate dance of the aqueous motion.
Bio
I had my first camera when I was 5 years old, thanks to my father for whom a camera was the extension of his right hand. Over the years my right hand extended also with cameras.
Murat Kunt is a Turkish born, self-taught Swiss macro photographer and former physicist. After devoting 35 years to Digital Signal and Image Processing at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Murat transformed his garage into a photography lab where he experiments with liquid-based motion photography techniques. His deep interest in particle collision images and personal connection to water immersed him to connect his passion for photography with aqueous drop techniques. His themes focus on bonding and the essence of such connections one forms through life.
